Welcome to class!

First thing first....we need to make sure you are in the right Seminar class.

  • Brief Introductions

A little bit about my teaching experience...

A little bit more about me...

  • My Seminar Webpage: jennifersimpson3.wix.com/seminar

Take a lot around and navigate through it. you will need to become familiar with it.

What is Seminar 1102?

* The second semester of seminar is about learning what it will take to survive college on your

own, but also what it will take to graduate.

Syllabus

* There is a hard copy you'll be getting and an online one, in case you lose this one.

* Lets take a look at it.

* IA - Individual Presentation / Reflections / Facilitations

Student Introductions

* Name / Major / Hometown (State) / Previous Seminar Leader

POLS - MindTap

This is your online homework. The code for it comes with your POLS textbook, so long as it's a new book that you purchased.

Do no purchase your book through Amazon, it is not recommended. Dr. Huerta has put on Blackboard, the places that he recommends you purchase the book from.

Haven't purchased your book yet? That is fine! You can get a free temporary access code!!!! Please do it ASAP.

Always access MindTap through Blackboard. Do no go to the direct website.

The first MindTap (Ch 1) is a practice one and is not graded. Strongly encouraged to do Ch. 1!!!

Check his syllabus. The homework is worth 300 POINTS! That means, that if you don't do them, then the highest you can get in his class, is a C! And that's only if you're perfect in everything else.

Communication

I'm sorry that you were not able to meet Prof. Meyers! She is so wonderful!

  1. Hand out Syllabus and schedule

  2. Lets navigate a little through her blackboard.

  • Click on Units and view her Course Orientation video. (~8min)

  • After you watch the video, click on the UNIT 1 folder and view the UNIT 1 Mini Lecture video.

  • Scroll down and click on the folder Assignments/Activities

  • The first link there, Introduction & Syllabus, is your homework for COMM. DUE by midnight, tonight.

Our First Group Activity!

  • Get into groups of three to four.

  • Make sure to introduce yourselves to each other.

  • On one sheet of paper, list 3-5 things that you hope seminar will help you learn about this semester. How can I help you?

  • Also write down any questions that you may have for me. These questions can be about Seminar class, me, or about POLS.

  • After about 5 minutes, we will be sharing what you came up with. So also pick a spokesperson for your group.

Homework! Woohoo!

  • I'm terrible with names (though good with faces).

As a way to introduce yourself to me, I want you to design a full page profile for me.

This will count as your first participation grade and will be due by next Thursday, January 25th, in Seminar.

Remember, we do not accept late work and I do not accept emailed work.

If you absolutely cannot print at home or on campus, the come let me know during office hours.

Don't have a camera or camera phone? Get someone to take your pic and have them email or text it to you. Don't know anyone? I'll take a quick photo of you. It does need a photo for full credit.
