POLS Note-Taking

Documentary today, how was it taking notes?

Remember, do not write/type everything down from the documentary, just the key points.

The documentary will appear on the exam. So make sure to pay attention and take notes.

Lets go over some of your notes and see how it went.

MindTap Chapter 1 was "due" today. Did anyone have trouble getting it done?

MindTap Chapter 2 is DUE by 8am, Thursday. Please make sure to get Chapter 1 done first so that any hiccups can happen there and not during the one that is actually due for a grade. (Check Blackboard to see if the date has changed on it)

Please make sure to give yourself enough time to do Chapter 2 several times. Remember, you have several chances to get the highest grade possible on it.

Exam Dates: Exam I (Chapters 1-3, plus documentaries) Feb 13, Exam 2 (Chapters 4, 5, 6) March 6, Exam 3 (Chapters 7-10) April 5, Final Exam (Chapters 11-13) May 10

The Integrated Assignment (Individual Informative Presentation)

You will be asked to develop a 3-5 minute informative presentation based on a set of criteria that will be explained later in class.

This assignment will require you to construct:
an outline,
a research journal and
research synthesis chart, and
a presentation using a slide-based visual aid
Each of the above will be introduced and taught in Communication. You will be able to practice and work on each of those things in Seminar.

One hurdle that students, at time, have is realizing that anything can be made political. So, lets do some practicing.

Communication

It is extremely important that you check your islander email. You should have your push notifications on for this email.

It is important because it is the only way that instructors are allowed to talk to you, especially about grades.

While email is every important and great, I know that there are times that you need an immediate response (like in the evening when you are freaking out about an assignment or when I need for you to immediately be reminded or alerted about something with class.

So I use Remind.
